When your hear names like Janis Joplin and John Butler, you automatically conjure up an idea of them and their music. Yet they are just two of the big name music acts that First Friday Live’s next performer has been likened to. It’s a big call. But Genevieve Chadwick has a big voice. And on October 7 she is coming to Griffith.

This is one woman who has it all - the looks, the guitar playing prowess, the voice. She’s been reviewed by Lloyd Bradford Skye as, “Australia’s answer to Melissa Ethridge” and it’s easy to see why. With too many major music festivals to list, one of Genevieve’s finest moments was being selected as one of only three Australian artists to participate in the global Playing for Change music project. Shortly after she would go on to support Joan Armatrading and Ben Caplan on their Australian shows.

You can just tell when an artist is being true to themselves and to their craft – it’s intangible and yet palpable at the same time. You've only got to listen to one of Genevieve Chadwick’s tracks or see her perform live to know that she sings from a place of truth - she is the opposite of contrived.

First Friday Live co-founder Livio Mazzon has no doubts this next artist will captivate her audience, "There has been so many positive things said and written about Genevieve and her music. This is one talent you won’t want to miss.”

Genevieve will be ready to strut her stuff at the very appropriate venue The Olympic Street Basement. Tickets are $20 per person and can be purchased from Lesley's of Griffith and Beelbangera General Store or at the door. Dinner will be available at $30 per person and must be pre-booked and paid for with tickets. This event is BYO drinks. The show gets underway at 7.30pm.

Griffith has certainly excelled on the event front this year. But if there’s one event you won’t want to miss it’s First Friday Live’s inaugural “Budburst” Concert. Friday 2nd September will see McWilliam’s ‘Hanwood Estate’ Cellar Door host this special event featuring the Afro Cuban sounds of Clave De Son. The fine venue and music will be complimented by the fine food of Sugarmill Patisserie.

So who is this five-piece band set to entertain Griffith? If you take members of Clavemania, a popular Latin jazz group from Melbourne, and combine them with a talented salsa band from Canberra, and their bandleader, percussionist Sinuhe Pacheco – you get Clave De Son.

First Friday Live co-founder Livio Mazzon enthusiastically announced, "We knew something exciting was unfolding when we secured McWilliam’s for the September First Friday Live. We had Clave De Son booked and when Sugarmill came on board it was as though the planets aligned. It’s shaping up to be a memorable FFL.”

Tickets are $25 per person and include a complimentary glass of wine on arrival. They can be purchased from McWilliam’s Wines, Lesley's of Griffith and Beelbangera General Store. Sugarmill Patisserie will be offering $20 mains and $5 desserts – payable at the time of ordering via cash or EFTPOS. For tables of 6 or 12, tickets must be pre-purchased from ticket outlets. Wine tasting will begin at 6.45pm with the show starting at FFL’s usual time of 7.30pm.
