FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

First Friday Live Celebrates Holiday Spirit with Melbourne Jazz Quartet at Griffith’s Bidgee Studio Gardens

Griffith’s First Friday Live initiative will end the year on a high note when it hosts its biggest concert yet at an outdoor venue on Friday December 5, 2014.  Melbourne modern jazz band The ishs/Allen Project will take to the stage at 7.30pm at the beautiful gardens of Bidgee Studio, formerly The Cottage Gallery.

The gardens of the newly renovated Bidgee Studio will present a beautiful backdrop to The ishs/Allen Project, a quartet of Melbourne-based musicians garnering attention for lyrical melodies and dexterous rhythms. Pianist Ade Ishs and drummer Chelsea Allen combine with Paul Bonnington on acoustic and electric basses and Ee Shan Pang, a trumpeter who also plays flugelhorn and provides vocals. The foursome will be an audience favourite with their blend of swing, Latin, and funk modern jazz styles.

First Friday Live is a Griffith not-for-profit community organised event run by local volunteers with the common goal of nurturing a strong live music scene in the town. The monthly concert series showcases local and national talents, anchored by the funk jazz sounds of Griffith band Metro. First Friday Live Musical Coordinator Lachlan Pendlebury said he is delighted to hand the mic to The ishs/Allen Project.

“We are dedicated to sharing our First Friday Live stage as often as we can with bands from around the country and it’s a privilege to introduce this terrifically talented modern jazz group to local audiences. We have seen The Ishs/Allen Project perform before and we know the magic they will bring to the stage,” said Lachlan, who plays trumpet and percussion for Metro.

“We are also excited to offer an outdoor venue for families to enjoy great music under the summer sky as we all get into the holiday spirit,” he added.

The ishs/Allen Project combines seasoned and up-and-coming musicians. Ade Ishs is a songwriter and a pianist whose expressive musicianship and playing style centre on contemporary jazz, classical and meditational music. With more than 10 years of performing in jazz, pop, rock and world music, drummer Chelsea Allen is known for engaging and exciting percussion performances. Versatile musician Paul Bonnington has been playing trombone and other brass instruments in addition to guitars for 20 years. Originally from Singapore, Ee Shan Pang is one of the newest trumpeters to arrive on the Melbourne jazz scene. She also participates in the MOU Quartet, Apollo jazz band and jazz brass band Darebin City Brass.
