Rod Herbert

Written by Monday, 03 November 2014 03:16

One of Sydney's most talented musicians will bring the big sound of the Jazz Trombone to Griffith this month, for another incredible First Friday Live performance.

Rod Herbert has been part of the Sydney music scene for more than 25 years, and his impressive performance career spans a wide range of genres and musical styles – from world music, big bands, jazz and classic orchestral trombone, to hip hop and pop music. He has not only mastered the Trombone, but also the Bass Trombone, Rhythm Section Tuba and Sousaphone; and has singing and music arrangement credentials to cap it all off.

This infectious love of music extends beyond performance to music education, and Rod is a respected teacher of music and brass instruments. Since 2009, he has been a Board of Studies HSC Music Performance Examiner.

Rod's musical background began with a 'mother's knee' diet of Buddy Rich and Stan Kenton LPs, before he graduated from the Sydney University Conservatorium of Music's jazz program. He brings a lifetime of musical immersion to the First Friday Live series of concerts and, backed by house band 'Metro', his Griffith debut promises to be a fantastic night of live entertainment.

"We are thrilled to have secured an artist of Rod's calibre to perform at First Friday Live" said Lachlan Pendlebury, Musical Co-ordinator with First Friday Live. "The Jazz Trombone is such a great sound and there's nothing better than hearing it live."

This month's concert will be held at Bar One88, 188 Banna Avenue Griffith, on Friday 7 November, from 7.30pm. Invite your friends, book a table, or just turn up! Our low cover charge of $15 is paid to the performers, to ensure we can continue to bring great live music to Griffith.
